Sheffield Floods

Over the past 48 hours, Sheffield has had the worst floods since March 1864.

Hundreds of people were left stranded in shops and factories as the River Don burst it’s banks as a month’s worth of rain fell in just a day.

Sheffield has ground to halt as streets are left waterlogged and full of abandoned vehicles and debris, Even the M1 is closed due to fears that the wall of the Ulley Dam, close to Rotherham, could collapse.

Thousands of people were evacuated from the homes as the water rose at a harrowing pace.

Even my beloved Sheffield Wednesday Football Ground did not escape the devastation.

Tonight there are still approximately 35,000 people without electricity after a sub-station was submerged under 5ft of water.

It will take quite a while until the city recovers and the clean up operation ends, and unfortunately the met office has predicted more rain to come.
