M&S To Charge For Carrier Bags!!!
Marks and Spencer are going to start and charge food customers for every plastic carrier bag they use. The carrier bags will cost 5 pence each. This charge is to help reduce the demand for the bags, which campaigners say damage the environment. Shops are giving out approximately 13 billion plastic bags to UK shoppers every year which are said to take around 1,000 years to decay.
The move follows a trial at 50 stores in Northern Ireland and the South West of England which saw demand for polythene bags fall by more than 70 per cent.
This is all well and good but unfortunately Marks & Spencers is only a very small fish in a very big sea of food retailers.
For instance, where I live there are three M&S food outlets within approximately 6 miles of my house……this is really good for the people who
a) Can afford to shop in M&S
b) Have transport to get them to M&S
Do people not realise that the scumbags who actually throw their carrier bags in to rivers and trees and just throw them out of car windows when they have filled them with rubbish DO NOT SHOP IN MARKS AND SPENCERS. They shop in smaller shops or shops that are more local to where they stay ie: Co-op, Alldays, Sommerfield, Keystores or Spar to name but a few.
Why don’t they start to charge customers for each carrier bag, It would definately show us whether the customers would be willing to throw away a carrier bag or shopping bag that they have had to pay for!!
