Sharpei Pup Is So Lovable

Sharpei Puppy PicsThe Shar Pei is a breed of dog known for it’s distinctive features of deep wrinkles and a blue-black tongue. The breed is originally from China. Unfortunately, once they are fully grown their wrinkles disappear due to the fact that they “grow into their skin” Shar Pei were once named as one of the world’s rarest dog breeds by Time magazine and the Guinness Book of World Records, and the American Kennel Club did not recognize the breed until 1991.

Here is a collection of very cute pics of a Sharpei pup sleeping on a towel. Its hard to figure out where the towel ends and the pup begins.

    Wow,
you have got some great pictures here. You are right in saying that the dogs do grow into their skin, but the majority od Shar Pei puppies are not as wrinkly as the cream puppy pictured, in fact pups this wrinkly (although very cute) often suffer with the most common problem of the breed entropian, whereby the skin on the eyelids roll in, and the eyelashes irritate the eyes, and can if left untreated cause ulcers and the dog can go blind, this is why the majority of these puppies have there eyes tacked at 3 weeks of age, a surgery very important to the health of a Shar Pei, but unfortunately a surgery which the Kennel Club of Great Britain, is now saying will not be allowed if a Shar Pei is to be shown. This will only affect pups born on or after 03rd April 2008. Unfortunately this may only increase the problem as breeders in order to sell their puppies may not have the surgery for likely hood of the reduction in selling price of pups, or non sale of a pup.

Thanks for that! I never knew that, I have always found the breed so cute and gorgeous but unfortunately, as with most wrinkly dogs, there always seem to be some sort of health problems. That is a real shame, I hate anything nasty happening to dogs
