This Week I am Loving…..Michael K. Williams
I am totally addicted to the US Drama “The Wire” A friend advised me to watch it, So I did, I have just finished watching Season 4 on DVD and am patiently awaiting the DVD release of Season 5. The story line’s are just brilliant and I find myself totally hooked, although Jim McNulty is a bit of a prat (well actually a lot of a prat) I just love Omar Little, the gorgeous gay gangster played by Michael K Williams. Mow for those of you who do not watch “The Wire” and do not know who Michael K William is, here are just a few pieces of info followed by….yes you guessed it….the pics!
Born Michael Kenneth Williams in Brooklyn, New York in 1966. He enrolled in school and got a job at a pharmaceutical company, but his passion for music led him to leave school and quit his job against the wishes of his family to pursue a career as a dancer. He spent a year homeless but regularly visited record labels and dance studios looking for work, he eventually got a job as a background dancer on a music tour, which led to more work appearing as a dancer in videos and on tours, as well as some modelling work.
The scar which appears on his face in the series is actually real, on his 25th birthday he was involved in a brawl and his assailant slashed his face with a razor blade. According to Williams, the scar helped to launch his acting career. Within months of the incident, photographers were stopping him on the street, asking him to pose.[5] He began getting more calls to do music videos, which led to some minor work playing a thug in TV shows. in 1996 he appeared in Tupac Shakur’s crime drama Bullet and in 1999 he appeared in the music video for Madonna’s song “Secret”.
He made an appearance on Law & Order in 1997 and again in 2001), and also in The Sopranos before landing the role of Omar Little in “The Wire” which began 2002.
