The 10 Scariest Hobbies On The Planet

Was FDR right when he said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”? How many times have you seen this bumper sticker? It’s really not that hard to slap a bumper sticker on the back of your jacked up 4×4 and think you’re a badass. Some of the clowns rolling around in my neck of the woods adorn their mud-mobiles with bumper stickers and a healthy set of bumper nuts. Even these guys don’t have what it takes to handle the top 10 scariest hobbies. I assure you that any of the next 10 hobbies, bumper nuts or not, will loosen up your sphincter for at least a split second.

10. Sky Diving

Anyone will tell you the scariest part of sky diving is right before you leave the plane. After that it’s just the thrill of a lifetime.

A dentist can save your life

Tooth DecayAs a dental nurse I know that many people neglect their teeth as they “are not as important as the rest of your body” or “they are not at the top of your list of priorities” I often cringe at parents who are sitting in the waiting room with a child in pain from toothache but because the child may be a little hungry or thirsty then they obviously have to eat sugary sweets or “fizzy” drinks!!! Do they not realise that this is exactly the same sugary sweets and “fizzy” drinks that probably caused the child to be in pain in the first place.

Health authorities all over Scotland have tried different tactics to try and bring some sort of end to the growing amount of children with tooth decay. In some areas of Scotland 60% of toddlers have tooth decay.

Recently I found this article which states that “A dentist can save your life” People do not realise that you can actually DIE from an infected tooth:

Dental AbsessKen Michener’s tooth had been hurting off and on for months, and the pain was intense one Monday night in August. So Michener, 31, of Naperville, Illinois, who worked night shifts at a company that manufactures vitamins and dietary supplements, left at 3 a.m., halfway through his shift. At home, he tossed and turned. By the next afternoon, he’d found an oral surgeon to pull his sore molar, and started taking antibiotics to beat the bacterial infection and reduce the swelling. They did neither. By Friday, Michener was still hurting, and his left cheek bulged. At a local hospital, his oral surgeon removed another tooth, drained some pus, gave him painkillers and more antibiotics, and checked him into intensive care. (more…)

Bill Gates Gives High School Speech About Life

Bill Gates High School SpeechLove him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this! Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. In the speech he spoke about how “feel-good, politically correct” teachings has created a generation of kids with no actual concept of reality and how this concept will set them up for failure in the real world.
I don’t usually understand much about what Bill Gates says in many of his speeches but this I understand and actually agree with!

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world won’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity. (more…)

How Is A Wind Turbine Made?

WindfarmSo plans for a massive expansion of a wind energy programme in the UK are to be unveiled by the Government. It has been reported that the UK Government is planning to expand wind farms around the UK.

This will include the building of new Wind farms which will include 7000 wind turbines both in the countryside and around the coastline of Britain.

Gordon Brown Said:

“By 2020 we will have installed around 14 gigawatts — that is around 3,000 offshore wind turbines, meeting up to 50 percent of our renewable electricity,” he added, stating he wanted Britain to be a leader in “clean energy.”

This then got me thinking…..”I wander how the huge Wind Turbines are actually made?”….Here is where you will find out:

Bikini Hell !!!

BikiniI am on a major diet and getting ready for my holiday to Malaysia in September. But now the weight is finally coming off I seem to have a major dilemma……..A dilemma that I thought I would never ever have! The dilemma is………which bikini do I like the best?

Having already purchased two I thought I would do a little investigating on-line to see If I could find a couple more that I liked, that is when the problems started…..I actually liked a lot more than I really need. So I have put them all together and thought I would look at them again to see if I can get any inspiration or if anyone out there can help me chose. Ideally I only need another three bikinis. But which three should I go for?

What You Look At Isn’t Always What You See

The saying “What You Look At Isn’t Always What You See” is oh so true when it comes to emails and online articles.

Today one of my favourite daily reads, Attuworld, posted a story about a couple who bought a house and some land that had an old barn on it. The story goes that no one had looked in the barn for years and the new owners discovered $35 million worth of classic cars inside (pictured).

A nice story but a little far fetched was my first thought and a quick Google search revealed the story was indeed a hoax. The photographs were real, the accompanying story was just an internet myth that has grown over time with repetition.

The past month has seen a few internet hoaxes gaining momentum and exposure. Take the viral videos of the guy going nuts in a Russian office - fake. Or how about the clips of mobile phones cooking popcorn - fake.

If you ever see a story that doesn’t look quite right or is so over the top it becomes unbelievable then it probably is and a quick online search will usually turn up the truth. Snopes is a great site for quashing email and article myths and hoaxes.

HMV Could Have Had More Tact

HMV LogoI happen to be on the mailing list for HMV so occasionally I receive e-mails from them about offers and new releases etc. Nothing exciting to be talking about……until recently! I received an e-mail which said “Don’t Forget your Dad”.

The e-mail was reminding people that it is Father’s Day on Sunday the 15th of June. Which is all fine except that I lost my Dad to cancer six months ago. Now I know that these e-mails are not personal and there is no way they could know that my Dad has died I just think that there are a thousand ways to say that it is Father’s Day and check out what presents they have in stock.

1: “It’s Father’s Day Sunday, 15th of June, so click here to check out our great range of presents”
2: “We have hundreds of great gifts for Father’s Day” etc etc

I just think that “Don’t Forget your Dad” was a little tactless due to the fact that there are thousands of people like me who have lost their Dad, or who’s parents have separated and are no longer able to see their Dad…..We do not need a reminder not to forget them.

For such a large international company you would think that their PR team could be just a little more tactful and think in future.

Tortured Afghan WomanAccording to The Star’s Foreign Affairs Reporter, Olivia Ward, here are 10 of the worst countries in the world to be a woman today:

Afghanistan
The average Afghan girl will live to only 45, More than half of all brides are under 16, one woman dies in childbirth every half hour, 87 per cent of women admit to experiencing domestic violence, more than one million widows are on the streets Afghanistan is the only country in which the female suicide rate is higher than that of males.
