The shortest street in the world, called Ebenezer Place, is found in Wick, Caithness in Scotland. The Guinness Book of Records list this street, which measures only 6 foot 9 inches in length, as the shortest street in the world. Not only is it extremely short, it is also only has one address: 1 Ebenezer Place. This structure, which was originally a hotel, was built in 1883. When it was built, the owner was told to paint the name of the hotel on the shortest side of the building. It wasn’t until 1887 that Ebenezer Place was officially named a street.
When the rich and famous need an escape from the oppressive adoration of us dull normals, they tend to spare no expense to head somewhere exclusive, where the premium is on personal privacy.
Of course, with a few exceptions, these fabulous destinations are open to just about anyone who can pony up the cash. So even the little people can live it up celebrity style if they so choose. Here are some of the best places in the world to vacation like a star.
Saint-Tropez, France
If the French Riviera is a playground for the wealthy, Saint-Tropez is the rumpus room. Ever since Brigitte Bardot’s heyday, Europe’s elite has had a torrid love affair with the place. What makes one location so desirable for so long? Who knows? Whatever it is, Saint-Tropez has held that mysterious allure ever since the Invasion of Normandy. The beaches are gorgeous enough, the hotels swanky and the yachts oh-so secretive – not to mention bigger than your house.
I received an e-mail a few weeks back about a hilltop restaurant somewhere in China. The e-mail has been sat in my inbox since then, until I found out some facts regarding the pictures and location……Unfortunately, after quite a search I found…..absolutely nothing! The only relevant information regarding the pictures etc where actually other people who had received the very same e-mail and were looking for info too.
Anyway, having said that, here are the pictures of the death defying restaurant, according to the e-mail I received, once you get there….or should I say IF you get there, you can eat free. But don’t believe everything you read LOL.
If anyone knows where the pictures are taken please please please let me know.
First – take the tram up to the start of the trail.
Over the last few days I have spent most of my time researching holiday destinations in exotic locations. My final short-list was:
Thailand, Malaysia, Cuba and Mexico. Although Cuba was an uncertain choice due to the comings and goings of the people in charge there, I finally, after days of looking at pictures of white beaches, gorgeous blue seas and little beach chalets I decided that Malaysia was where I would be going on holiday this year. ALCATRAZ ISLAND (USA): home to the first lighthouse on the Pacific Coast
Alcatraz Island sometimes referred to as just Alcatraz or The Rock. This is a small island which can be found in the middle of San Francisco Bay in California, United States. It once served as a lighthouse, then a military fort, then a military prison followed by a federal prison until 1963, when it became a national recreation area. The first European to discover the island was Juan de Ayala in 1775, who charted the San Francisco Bay and named the island “La Isla de los Alcatraces”, which means “Island of the Pelicans”. (more…)
If you don’t like flying, then you really wouldn’t have enjoyed been aboard this Lufthansa Flight LH44 Airbus A330 which was trying to land during the really heavy storms on the 3rd of January 2008 which badly affected Hamburg Airport.
At one point the wing actually touches the ground as the pilot struggles to land the plane in bad crosswinds.
Just watch the video and imagine what you would be thinking if you were sat on the plane!!!
The world’s biggest building is going to be built in Moscow.
Crystal Island is to be Sir Norman Foster’s “city within a building” The mountainous building is scheduled to be finished within the next five years. The spiral shaped building will boast a huge 27 million square feet and will cost $4 billion.
Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building since July, has also become the tallest free-standing structure on earth, reaching 1,822 feet, the developers said.
The Dubai Tower’s final height is a closely guarded secret, but completion of the concrete, glass and steel structure is expected by the end of 2008. The building’s relentless climb is one example of Dubai’s stratospheric rise from a sleepy desert town on the Persian Gulf to one of the principal business centers in the Middle East.
